Growing up in Southern California, Pat Jaegar and his brothers spent many a weekend on local rivers and lakes. By the time he had reached his teens, he was a familiar face on the half-day fishing boats, scrubbing them on the way home in trade for the trips.

In 1978, after graduating high school, Pat moved to Mammoth Lakes with two friends and fell in love with the mountain life, fishing, skiing and hunting, but still pursued his saltwater fishing in the summer with long-range trips as far as South America and Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

In the Spring of 1995, Pat began his internship with the Trout Fly's Guide Service and later that year became a working partner. He also began working part time at the Clearwater House in Northern California in 1996 and has since that time. In the winter months Pat works at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in the repair shop.

Pat still gives us one day a week in the shop sharing his boundless enthusiasm and in-depth knowledge with the customers. You should take advantage! In his off hours he enjoys exploring new fisheries to challenge even the most advanced of clients. Pat is an FFF cretified casting instructor and trully a master guide.

Pat definitely has "the passion" - for fly fishing, for the guiding, and for the teaching. He truly enjoys what he does and that enjoyment rubs off on his guests. Spend a day with Pat and let him show you his world!

Kevin Peterson has lived that outdoor life that many of us only aspire to. Fishing and hunting since a child in Laramie Wyoming, it is no surprise he opted for a career as a professional guide, currently licensed for both fishing and hunting. Before moving to Mammoth Lakes in 1981, he managed to also take in ten years of saltwater angling while living in Costa Rica, and returns as often as he can.

Kevin began guiding in the Eastern Sierra in 1988 and was invited to join the Trout Fly's Guide Service two years later. He has also guided part time for the prestigious Clearwater House on Hat creek in Northern California since 1993 and has been an instructor at the guide school there as well.. Beyond his obvious credentials, Kevin's greatest asset to the shop has been his adaptability in meeting the needs of our varied clientele. Kevin moves effortlessly from working patiently with a first-time beginner on one day to an all-out assault on a technical section of a stream with a seasoned angler the next.

Kevin has recently sold his interest in the shop and assumed the manager's position at Hot Creek Ranch, but is still on ourboard of directors in an advisory position. He is also the Chairman of the Mono County Fishing Commission.

If you happen to catch him in between his myriad of "jobs", he'll greet you with a big smile, a firm handshake, and a love for fishing that's contagious - that's Kevin!

Tom April has spent more than 25 years living and fly fishing the Eastern Sierra. He co-founded the Eastside Guide Service, which later became the Trout Fly guide service and has guided on about every foot of trout waters between Bishop and Bridgeport over that time. He strongly promotes catch and release and the expansion of the wild trout areas in the Eastern Sierra.

Tom has done extensive guiding at the Clearwater House in Northern California and has conducted not only many of their advanced fly fishing schools but also has been an instructor at the Clearwater guide School. In fact, teaching is a way of life for Tom as he spends the winter months as a ski school supervisor at Mammoth Mountain.

Although he enjoys all types of waters and techniques, you'll usually find him on his days off plying his trade on smaller streams or polling his boat through the shallow weed beds of Crowley Lake sight fishing for the monsters. If that sounds like your cup of tea too, you should consider a trip with Tom. You'll make his day, and likewise he'll probably make yours!

Eric Hein started fishing at the ripe old age of five and tells the story of how he became a devout catch-and-release angler. It seems after first having to convince his father who “hates fish” to even take him fishing, and then spending three hours of fruitless work to catch his first fish, a “Bluegill”, he turned to his father with tears in his eyes and proclaimed “we have to let it go, it’s so pretty”. Well, 100,000 stories later,Eric (AKA Otis or Otie or O) continues his “hard”work as a guide and one of the experts there to help you in the shop as well as being in charge of the fly selection ,that is when not working as a bartender at Angel’s Restaurant. When does he sleep? Nobody Knows.

Raised in Marin County, north of San Francisco,Eric moved to Mammoth in 1979 for the “Big four” fishing, climbing, backpacking and skiing. He has been concentrating on flyfishing since 1985 and began guiding in 1991. He is extremely adept at all types of flyfishing but lately has been working on perfecting deepwater techniques on Crowley Lake and finding the hidden spots in the area to give his clients a chance to escape the crowds and enhance their mountain experience. If you’ve ever had the chance to have on a big fish, on dry line, in real shallow water, then you know the true meaning of”never a dull moment”. Working with, fishing with, or just being around Eric is kind of the same deal. That’s our man Otis!
